Happy New Year- Choosing to Thrive in 2017

Hellloooo 2017!!

Who is as excited for the new year as me?! Maybe only a few…but I hope not! There were points last year when I was not sure 2017 would ever roll around. While there were highlights from 2016 and I like to count my blessings, it was also a year of lows, struggle and growth.

For the past couple of years I have chosen a word to live by. Last year, I chose, “Brave.” You may have even noticed that I often wore a gold necklace stamped with the word “Brave.” I wanted to be brave in taking bold risks in my business and personal life. Being brave and in return receiving incredible joy for making that choice. Being brave in not being afraid to fail. All of these I did but I was not aware of how much that word would also play out where I was not expecting it. Being brave when times were hard. Being brave in situations I did not want to be in but had to be. Being brave in trusting that everything would work out. A couple months ago, once life started to slow down, I accidentally lost my brave necklace. While I was upset I lost one of my favorite necklaces, I also took it as a sign that I no longer needed a gentle reminder to be brave because I had been for the past year and I now knew I could be.

For 2017 I have chosen the word, “Thrive.” I think Travis would say this word is also like, “Winning,” (which he chose because isn’t everything a competition?) but it is not. So many times last year I felt like I was just trying to manage to get everything done and felt like a car running with their low fuel tank light on. This year I want to not just feel like I am surviving the day to day but thriving. I want to find a work/life balance, preferably heavier on the life side. Have more spontaneous trips with Travis. Go on more morning works. No longer be a “Yes Woman.” Serve my ideal client base to the best of my abilities. Take more time to get manicures and massages. Explore my french cooking books. Read just for fun and so much more.

I know for some 2016 was a great year but no matter if it was a great or not, I challenge each of you to reflect upon the last year and choose a word you would like to shape your year around. This has proven to be more beneficial to me than New Year’s Resolutions, which if we are honest go to the wayside by about week 3.

To celebrate the new year you will find a FREE January calendar desktop photo and also a phone screen photo. Be on the lookout in your inbox because this year I will be offering freebies every month emailed directly to you. Katie Michelle Designs Rebrand

I am SO excited to announce that the Katie Michelle Designs rebrand is complete! A HUGE thank you to the lovely and talented Lauren Carns for doing such beautiful work and for dealing with all of my indecisiveness and sporadic schedule the past couple months. She has been so kind and patient. If you are ever looking for any kind of design work, give her a holla because she is a gem to work with.

Lauren first created some mood boards to draw some inspiration from and to hone in on what my style and aesthetic was. I think she perfectly summed me up in this mood board. Sometimes I just like to stare at it because it is so pretty!

Next she went to work designing my new logos. My only request was that they involved some of my calligraphy. She did a great job mixing hand lettered elements along with digital ones, along with a pop of color!

Next Lauren designed a new business card and package insert for my Etsy shop. She had the GENIUS idea of the package serving a dual purpose. The back features my business information and then the front can be saved as a small postcard size print. Such. A. Fun. Idea.

Lastly but most importantly Lauren designed my brand new website which includes hand lettered elements as well as some watercolor images! You may notice that my website address has changed to: www.katiemichelleralls.com, so please change your bookmark/favorite accordingly!

Another new feature to Katie Michelle Designs is a newsletter! Subscribers to the newsletter will receive free monthly downloads, coupons, as well as other fun goodies! To sign up, just simply sign up at the bottom of home page! I promise I will not SPAM you, I hate receiving junk email too!

I am excited to get back to blogging as well as sharing more new and exciting projects with all of you!

FREE Valentine's Printable and Greeting Card

Today I had to go to the grocery store which goes against my grocery shopping rule of never going on Friday, especially to Safeway and really especially before the Friday of any holiday but... Travis just had neck surgery and he needed a few things so being the loving wife I am, I went anyway.

Upon walking into the grocery store I was bombarded with the strong sent of thrown together flower arrangements, the shiny, giant mylar balloons caught my eye in the fog of red and husbands buying last minute Valentine's Day Cards rushed past me. I immediately regretted going into the store for this exact reason so I grabbed a basket and pretended I was on an old rerun of Supermarket Sweep to get my items as quickly as possibly and leave the store without losing my sanity.

I know what you are probably thinking, Katie is a real scrooge when it comes to Valentine's Day...well you are partially right... I am a scrooge when it comes to THIS kind of Valentine's Day. You know the commercial, cliche, in your face kind of Valentine's Day. The one where people feel some kind guilt into doing kind or loving things for each other and men in particular have a huge pressure put upon them by society to live up to unrealistic expectations. When Travis and I were dating I told him to not ever buy me flowers on Valentine's Day because that was "the thing to do," but I would love flowers "just because" any other time of the year and thankfully he has lived up to that request.

The kind of Valentine's Day I do love is one that isn't showy, or over the top but that is thoughtful and from the heart. Hand written cards, homemade dinner and a day spent with your special someone doing something that you BOTH love and enjoy, that is really what the day is about. I am also a firm believer in that Valentine's Day should not be celebrated just one day a year but it should be every day a year.

If you have not yet had time to go and pick out a special card, purchase a gift or maybe you are just looking for something pretty to send your girlfriends I have you covered! In the spirit of love and giving, I am giving you all a free downloadable KMD watercolor heart and also an 8 x10 print. Just print out on card stock, trim down and you are good to go!

Just simple click HERE for the card....

And then click HERE for your 8x10 print.

Please only use these for your personal use and do not sell or market them as your own.

I hope you all have a Happy Valentine's Day and please, for my sake, continue to share the loving spirit all through out the year just not on Sunday :)
