Things I'm Loving Thursday | May 14, 2015

Happy Thursday friends, tomorrow is Friyay!!! Today's low point included having to go to the dermatologist for my yearly skin cancer screening (read more below). Today's high point included FREE Cake day at The Cake Lady. Also, I am having mixed emotions about tonight being the season finale of Scandal. Will you be tuning in??? Here are some more high points from this past week, enjoy! And always, feel free to comment below with some of yours!

Verde Studios
I am currently designing for two upcoming styled wedding shoots, both of which will obviously include an invitation suite. While I could use the generic American flag forever stamp, they are just not very pretty on invitations. Don't get me wrong, I love America, but for a wedding, there has to be a prettier option. Verde Studios is an Etsy shop that sells vintage stamps. Most of the stamps come in collection  or theme, I chose the orchard and botanical, but she has so many other beautiful options. They came super quickly in the mail and in adorable packaging, she even included a thank you set of Oregon themed stamps for me. If you are into sending snail mail or have a special event coming up consider using some vintage stamps on your envelopes for an extra pizazz. Trust me, the recipient will notice.

Savory Oregon Trail Juniper Berry Seasoning
If you have never been into a Savory Spice Shop, look at their locations online, find the nearest one and go there ASAP. As soon as you walk into the store you are immediately taken back by all the delicious aromas in the store. My favorite time to go in is during the holidays because they always have hot apple cider brewing with their mulling spices. The thing I love most about Savory is that their spices ARE NOT overpriced, at all. Generally they are cheaper than what you would buy them for in the grocery store and are also WAY better quality and fresher. I love so many of their spices but I have been loving their Oregon Trail Juniper Berry Seasoning spice in particular lately. Don't be scared off by the juniper berry, it has the faintest taste. It is great on beef, chicken and especially good on wild game meat. Do not think just cooking spices though, they have a whole slew of baking items...hello super affordable Madagascar vanilla beans!

Glamglow Thirstymud Hydrating Mask
Before I started preaching about how much I loved this product, I wanted to give it a solid couple tries before I started rejoicing my praises for it. After using it once a week (Sunday night baths) for three weeks I can honestly say that I love this product. While I do not know if it was worth its price tag, it definitely is a great mask, especially if you have dry skin. Winter and even spring in Central Oregon can leave your skin feeling especially dry due to the cold, dry, high desert air. This product leaves your skin feeling hydrated and refreshed. I am a HUGE fan of their Glamglow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment, which I have sucked it up and bought the full size bottle of. If you have dry or rough skin, order the small option of this product and give it a whirl.

Revenge Series Finale
Travis and I are a big fan of binge watching television series on Netflix, which I think a lot of people can agree with. We started watching Revenge one visit to Montana, when it was too cold and stormy to go outside and do very much. We were instantly hooked. If you have not watched this show, you should start, like now, well after you finish reading this post. Anyhoo...this Sunday, the series came to a finale. I am sad that it will no longer be on the air but at least it didn't have a terrible ending like some other series. I will not say how it ended in case it is still sitting in your DVD list or you are wanting to start the series but I am very glad how it ended!

Skin Cancer Awareness Month
May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Let this serve as a public service announcement to schedule an appointment with you local dermatologist to go and get your skin checked. These appointments are generally free if you have medical insurance since they are considered a preventative measure, so no excuses. This is not only important for people with fair skin, it is important for EVERYONE. I was lucky to inherit my dads darker complexion and rarely burn, however my skin is prone to getting freckles/moles. Each time I go in for my early visit, they choose to take something off of me. Fortunately, the labs results have proven to be fine each time but I still dread waiting to hear the results, especially due to the stupidity of my younger tanning days. It is also important to make sure you are wearing sunscreen everyday. Especially if you are someone who works outside, make sure you are putting it on your ears and the back of your neck! In the past three decades, skin cancer has accounted for more cases than all other cancers combined.Yes, looking tan is nice, but being cancer free is better. Get a spray tan and put on some sunblock. And most importantly, if you are visiting a tanning bed, STOP. RIGHT. NOW.

The Pink Tumbleweed Rustic Bathroom Redo
If you all aren't following or reading the blog from The Pink Tumbleweed you totally should. They are a group of sisters from Eastern Oregon, also known as the Junk Barn Girls. Alison, who wrote this weeks post is super sweet and has the best ideas. She is currently redoing her son's bathroom and I am loving that she used wood tile for the bathroom counter tops. We recently redid our bathroom and used wood tile for the flooring but it never occurred to me to use it on the counter. Look at how great it looks! Head on over to their blog and check it out, as well as their other projects!! Also, stay tuned because I am doing a special project for a farm wedding (my favorite) they are planning this summer!

Jillian Michaels Detox Water
I have not being eating how I normally do/should lately and in turn, that has made my stomach feel crummy. I felt like I needed something to quickly snap my eating habits back to normal so for the past week I have been making and drinking Jilllian Michaels Detox Water, along with eating healthy, home cooked meals. If you browse Pinterest I am sure you have seen this pinned at some point. It claims to make you lose up to 8 pounds in a week. Honestly, I do not weigh myself (we do not even own a scale) and losing weight was not my intention on drinking this, so I cannot tell you if those claims are true or not. What I can tell you is that my stomach feels like it is back to normal, I have more energy and feel way less bloated fat&sassy. Here is a link for the recipe and instructions!

Bliss Body Butter- Grapefruit and Aloe
The weather is getting warmer and which means I can wear dresses without tights or leggings underneath and soon it will also be time for shorts! Winters in Central Oregon always leave my skin super dry, due to the cold, dry high desert air. Hydration and lotion are key to keeping my skin from not looking like an alligator handbag. I am currently loving the Grapefruit and Aloe Bliss Body Butter. It has just the right amount of scent, absorbs quickly and can be used all over. Often times, like around the holidays, you can find mini versions of them to throw in every bag you own.

Stella and Dot Wishing Bracelet
I am a huge fan of Stella and Dot jewelry, especially their bracelets. I like to layer a couple of them together with my watch to create one fun arm party. Sometimes I also like to wear them separate, like this wishing bracelet. I received this bracelet in my Bloom Workshop swag bag and it is soon becoming one of my everyday pieces of jewelry. It is simple, petite and does not get in your way, which is really nice if you spend a lot of time on the computer. You can choose from either an elephant (the one I'm loving), arrow, or horseshoe. They are also adjustable so they fit everyone which is sometimes I challenge with bracelets! Right now they are also running a Mother's Day Special. Go and check out Kara Garavatti's S&D Page to purchase yours! She also just started a blog, Styled with Life, if you would like to follow along!

Anthropologie- Inked Peonies Wallpaper
One of my BFFs is expecting her first baby (a girl) in August!! I am so excited for her and can't wait to hold the little peanut! I am helping her design her baby room so I have been browsing anything and everything baby girl. I believe that baby rooms should be designed so they can last more than their first year, preferably for much longer! I love the idea of having a wallpaper accent wall in a baby room. Before you turn your nose up at wallpaper, let me tell you, there are a lot better options than there used to be. There are some really beautiful options and it can look really great if you use it in the right space. How cute would this inked peonies wallpaper look in a little girls room? This wallpaper could easily go last the way until they graduate from high school if they loved it that much!

Things I'm Loving Thursday | April 2, 2015

Happy first week of April! I am glad to finally be home for a full week and not be traveling somewhere, it is nice to be able to get caught up on things around the house. Next week I am headed to California for The Bloom Workshop at Regale Winery, I can't wait! Here are some of my faves from this week.

Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder
I do not wash my hair every day, sorry. Not sorry. I started this habit back in college to save time getting ready in the mornings and have stuck with it ever since. No my hair does not look like a grease ball by day four but sometimes it gets kind of limp and lifeless. I have been trying to find a good dry shampoo and LOVE this product. I should not have been surprised though since Bumble and Bumble has never failed me in the hair department. It just takes a little bit of powder sprinkled on your roots and bam! brand new hair. It also smells lovely. I love big hair and this product is also great when you are needing to add a little grit or weight for easier teasing and curling.

Container Store Recycling Bins
Since we do not live in the city we unfortunately do not have recycling included with our garbage service so instead we have to collect our own and take them into the recycling center if we want to do our small part to save the world. For the longest time we would just collect them in brown paper sacks and then take them in. I hated this for so many reasons; the backs would get knocked over, it looked like our pantry was full of garbage constantly, some of the bags would get too heavy and the bottom would give out, ect. I knew we had to do something and dumping everything in the trash was not what I wanted to do. The Container Store makes great recycling bins that are cute AND functional. They come in a couple different sizes and colors. My favorite feature is that they have a lid and handles so everything stays hidden and you carry them to your car without the bottom falling out. They are on sale right now too!

Williams and Sonoma Calphalon Pans
Williams and Sonoma is one of my weaknesses, fortunately/unfortunately the nearest store is in Portland, otherwise Travis and I might be living in a van, down by the river. On the plus side we would have really nice ingredients and cookware to make meals with over our campfire. Anyway... I had been looking to upgrade our cookware for some time but could never settle on one I liked because I couldn't justify spending a large portion of money on a pan I had never tried. On our last trip to Montana, I made dinner using one of the nonstick Calphalon pans and loved it. Even though they are nonstick they are not made with the usual nonstick material that you see in a lot of pans. Calphalon makes a line of cookware for Williams and Sonoma and when I was there last they were having a sale on some of their starter pan sets (their sale is still going on, go check it out!). I jumped on it, bought a set and they are great! Yes, they are expensive but they are an investment, you will have them much longer than other pans you will buy AND you can totally tell the difference.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
I have run out of shows to marathon on Netflix, (if you have any suggestions I am totally open) but the other night the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt series popped up as a suggestion. I love Ellie Kemper, who is the star of the show and one of the creators is Tina Fey, so I figured it would be worth a try and it is hilarious. It is about a girl, who was a rescued from an estranged cult and is now trying to make a life for herself in New York City. The plot sounds kind of dark and depressing but the show really is not. Each episode is only like 20 something minutes in length so give it a try!

Allergy Medicine Cocktail
I get the worst allergies every Spring and Fall. I have tried every possible combo and remedy and finally found something that works for me. If you struggle with allergies, maybe it will help you as well! A coworker told me to try allergy medicine that contains the active ingredient of Loratadine because she found it made her less sleepy. I tried it and it does not leave me feeling groggy or drugged! Lately though that hasn't been enough so I have also been taking nettle capsules. This at first seemed counterproductive to me since they are a weed but for some weird reason they really help. Usually I take 2-4 a day when my allergies are extra a bad. I strongly caution not having excessive REAL cocktails while taking any kind of allergy medicine however. One year in college my cousin and I split a bottle of gin day drinking outside at our roommates graduation party, (whoops) and she slept for almost 18 hours!!! Not the best choice but she was allergy free.
