Things I'm Loving Thursday | April 2, 2015

Happy first week of April! I am glad to finally be home for a full week and not be traveling somewhere, it is nice to be able to get caught up on things around the house. Next week I am headed to California for The Bloom Workshop at Regale Winery, I can't wait! Here are some of my faves from this week.

Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder
I do not wash my hair every day, sorry. Not sorry. I started this habit back in college to save time getting ready in the mornings and have stuck with it ever since. No my hair does not look like a grease ball by day four but sometimes it gets kind of limp and lifeless. I have been trying to find a good dry shampoo and LOVE this product. I should not have been surprised though since Bumble and Bumble has never failed me in the hair department. It just takes a little bit of powder sprinkled on your roots and bam! brand new hair. It also smells lovely. I love big hair and this product is also great when you are needing to add a little grit or weight for easier teasing and curling.

Container Store Recycling Bins
Since we do not live in the city we unfortunately do not have recycling included with our garbage service so instead we have to collect our own and take them into the recycling center if we want to do our small part to save the world. For the longest time we would just collect them in brown paper sacks and then take them in. I hated this for so many reasons; the backs would get knocked over, it looked like our pantry was full of garbage constantly, some of the bags would get too heavy and the bottom would give out, ect. I knew we had to do something and dumping everything in the trash was not what I wanted to do. The Container Store makes great recycling bins that are cute AND functional. They come in a couple different sizes and colors. My favorite feature is that they have a lid and handles so everything stays hidden and you carry them to your car without the bottom falling out. They are on sale right now too!

Williams and Sonoma Calphalon Pans
Williams and Sonoma is one of my weaknesses, fortunately/unfortunately the nearest store is in Portland, otherwise Travis and I might be living in a van, down by the river. On the plus side we would have really nice ingredients and cookware to make meals with over our campfire. Anyway... I had been looking to upgrade our cookware for some time but could never settle on one I liked because I couldn't justify spending a large portion of money on a pan I had never tried. On our last trip to Montana, I made dinner using one of the nonstick Calphalon pans and loved it. Even though they are nonstick they are not made with the usual nonstick material that you see in a lot of pans. Calphalon makes a line of cookware for Williams and Sonoma and when I was there last they were having a sale on some of their starter pan sets (their sale is still going on, go check it out!). I jumped on it, bought a set and they are great! Yes, they are expensive but they are an investment, you will have them much longer than other pans you will buy AND you can totally tell the difference.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
I have run out of shows to marathon on Netflix, (if you have any suggestions I am totally open) but the other night the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt series popped up as a suggestion. I love Ellie Kemper, who is the star of the show and one of the creators is Tina Fey, so I figured it would be worth a try and it is hilarious. It is about a girl, who was a rescued from an estranged cult and is now trying to make a life for herself in New York City. The plot sounds kind of dark and depressing but the show really is not. Each episode is only like 20 something minutes in length so give it a try!

Allergy Medicine Cocktail
I get the worst allergies every Spring and Fall. I have tried every possible combo and remedy and finally found something that works for me. If you struggle with allergies, maybe it will help you as well! A coworker told me to try allergy medicine that contains the active ingredient of Loratadine because she found it made her less sleepy. I tried it and it does not leave me feeling groggy or drugged! Lately though that hasn't been enough so I have also been taking nettle capsules. This at first seemed counterproductive to me since they are a weed but for some weird reason they really help. Usually I take 2-4 a day when my allergies are extra a bad. I strongly caution not having excessive REAL cocktails while taking any kind of allergy medicine however. One year in college my cousin and I split a bottle of gin day drinking outside at our roommates graduation party, (whoops) and she slept for almost 18 hours!!! Not the best choice but she was allergy free.
